Employee of the Month: Brittany Bennett!

Say hello to our superstar of the month — Brittany Bennett! 💫 Hailing from the heart of Louisiana (yes, she can cook a mean gumbo 🍲), Brittany brings Southern charm, compassion, and a whole lot of heart to everything she does.

Brittany’s been a caregiver for seven years — and it shows. Her journey began with caring for her beloved father during his illness, and since then, she’s been changing lives with her kindness, patience, and that warm, comforting smile. 💖

Married for 12 years and mom to two awesome boys 👦👦, Brittany somehow manages to juggle family life and caregiving like an absolute pro. She even calls herself the “extra family member” for her clients — and honestly, we couldn’t describe her better!

Thank you, Brittany, for being the light in so many people’s lives.

We’re lucky to have you on the team!

Golden Heart Employee of the Month: Maria Jessica Zarate!

Let’s give a big round of applause to our shining star this month — Maria Jessica Zarate, Golden Heart’s Employee of the Month!

Maria hails from the sunny state of California and is the proud mom of three amazing kids. But did you know she also has a soft spot for straw animals? Yep — when she’s not providing heartfelt care, she’s on a mission rescuing those adorable hay-stuffed creatures and helping them find their forever homes. Talk about a golden heart!

Maria has been a caregiver for as long as she can remember — it’s more than a job, it’s who she is. It’s in her roots, her culture, and her soul. Since joining Golden Heart in May 2023, she’s brought warmth, compassion, and just the right touch of humor to every life she touches.

Thank you, Maria, for showing us what it means to lead with love (and maybe a few straw critters along the way). We’re lucky to have you! 💛🌾👏

Five Tips for Adapting to Home Care Assistance

It isn’t always easy to accept help, even when someone knows they need it. This is something that family caregivers and seniors experience all the time. Once home care assistance is in place, the trick becomes adjusting to having that help around consistently. Here are some tips that can make that process easier for families.

Go Over the Benefits

Talking about the benefits of home care services really can help so much. Sometimes families line up assistance from senior care services, but they don’t realize all the different ways that they can help. When seniors in particular understand that they can customize the help that they get based on their needs and preferences, adjustment periods can be a lot shorter.

Start a Care Plan

A care plan is the “flight plan” for everyone involved in the caregiving experience. It’s what helps everyone involved to know what to do and when to try something different. The best care plans are a collaborative effort, including input from seniors as well as family caregivers, medical providers, and home care providers. Sometimes care plans are incredibly detailed and cover every possible situation, while others might offer looser boundaries and recommendations.

Talk About How It’s Going

When home care assistance is in pace, it’s time to talk about how it’s going. Are seniors getting the help they need? Are family caregivers getting the help they need? In the end, it’s all about ensuring that the needs everyone had in the beginning are actually getting resolved. Making sure that conversations about how it’s going happen relatively often ensures that when changes need to happen, everyone is aware and can make that happen.

Consider Trial Periods

Sometimes seniors still aren’t excited about all of this and needing help from outside caregivers. One solution might be to consider trying out trial periods. This means that seniors agree to have help available on certain days or for a certain amount of time before they decide whether or not to commit. Everyone gets a chance to work out what types of help might truly be needed. Applying these trial periods offers boundaries that seniors might find more helpful.

Revisit Plans to Make Sure They’re Still Effective

Long after the adjustment period is over, families still need to talk about whether plans are still effective. Talking about how needs are changing and whether home care assistance is keeping pace with those difficulties is an important step. As seniors experience health changes, mobility changes, and more, they may need more or less help every time families revisit these plans. That’s normal, and families need a way to stay responsive to what seniors need.

Sometimes seniors need extra help but they don’t want the emotional baggage that they might associate with needing help. That makes adjusting to solutions like home care assistance difficult to do, even when they want the help these professionals can offer. Working together as a team is the best option, and family caregivers, seniors, and professional caregivers can all offer insights that make the process easier.

Golden Heart Senior Care’s “StaySafe” Program: Enhancing Safety Through Innovation

At Golden Heart Senior Care, our commitment to the well-being and independence of our clients has always been at the core of our mission. We are proud to introduce our newest safety initiative: the StaySafe Program—a groundbreaking advancement in home care that leverages the power of artificial intelligence to ensure seniors can live safely and confidently in their own homes.

StaySafe utilizes cutting-edge technology from Sensi.AI, the world’s first in-home virtual care agent powered by audio-based AI. This system is discreet, non-intrusive, and designed specifically for the needs of aging adults. With 24/7 passive monitoring capabilities, the StaySafe program detects unusual events, patterns, or potential safety concerns—such as falls, signs of cognitive decline, or changes in routine—and alerts our care team in real time. This allows us to respond promptly and proactively, even when caregivers are not physically present.

One of the most powerful aspects of the StaySafe program is that it requires no wearable devices or cameras, preserving privacy while delivering enhanced safety. The technology continuously learns and adapts to each client’s unique environment, helping to identify risks and support a more personalized care plan.

Most importantly, the StaySafe program is offered free of charge to all Golden Heart Senior Care clients. We believe every senior deserves access to the highest level of safety and peace of mind, without financial barriers.

Through the StaySafe program, Golden Heart continues to lead the way in compassionate, innovative, and forward-thinking care—helping our clients age with dignity, independence, and security in the comfort of their own homes.
